Kham is a 7 year old boy who was diagnosed with Autism before the age of 2. Since his diagnosis, Kham has underwent extensive therapy with the ultimate goal of creating an independent future.
Kham is challenged in communication, sensory, feeding, social and situational awareness, as well as, having behavioral shortfalls. Nearly his entire life has been spent undergoing a rigorous 45+ hour per week therapy schedule, including Applied Behavioral Analysis, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Hippotherapy, Feeding Therapy and more.
In 2021, Kham's parents, Kent and Keelan, moved their family from Austin, TX to Richmond, KY to be closer to his support system and have better control of his future. The transition has been far from easy.
With the hopes of getting Kham into an educational setting where he wouldn't be left behind, it was clear the state of Kentucky and local school systems did not have the services or support needed for Kham to be successful. After multiple failed attempts to coordinate with the public school system and even enrolling at a private school to then unenroll 8 days later due to lack of resources and training, the Hensley family would need to put all of the pieces together on their own to make sure Kham had a chance.
Kham has finally landed at a private school, with the perfect support and is accelerating through his primary education. The future of his education still remains unclear, but his parents will continue their mission to ensure he receives every opportunity to be successful.
